How to get there

  • By Plane

    Flights can be made to Nagoya or Osaka, but onward connections will add another 1.5-2 hr to the journey.
  • By Train
    ~2hr 14min
    The Tokaido Shinkansen (Hikari) from Tokyo Station takes ~2hr 14min to reach Maibara Station in Shiga, which connects to local lines.
  • By Plane
    ~ 2hr
    Osaka and Maibara are connected via Tōmei Expressway (E1), and you can expect about a 2hr drive depending on your exact start/end point and traffic conditions.
  • By Train
    ~1hr 23min
    The Special Rapid Nagahama (Tokaido-Sanyo Line) is a cost-effective way to reach Maihama from Osaka Station at ¥1,980 but other routes existing depending on your destination.
  • By Plane
    ~1hr
    About 1hr via Tomei Expressway (E1) or 2hr 30min via local roads.
  • By Train
    ~27min
    It takes under half an hour by Tokaido Shinkansen (Hikari) from Nagoya Station, but the journey can be done via local trains (eg Rapid Ogaki, changing at Ogaki Station) in about 1hr 12min at a lower cost.
