Taiyuji Temple

Taiyū-ji is a Buddhist temple located in Osaka, easily accessible from Umeda Station. It stands in between buildings of hotels and offices.

According to legend, Taiyu-ji was founded in 821 by Kukai, a Japanese monk who propagated Buddhist teachings. He found a sacred tree upon traveling an area covered by thick woods and built a humble building. Later, it was enlarged by Minamoto no Toru, son of Emperor Saga. The temple was burned down twice; first during the summer war of Osaka, second during WWII. After the war, Taiyu-ji was reconstructed along with other temples affected by the tragedy.
