These days, the Ueno area of Tokyo is a hub for cultural activities, shopping, and more -- but what was this part of the city like in years gone by? A special event at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum will explore various different works relating to Ueno, including ukiyo-e prints, photography, and more. In total, around 60 works will be displayed at the event, including the likes of Shungyo Nagashima's "Balloons at Ueno Park" (1890) and Kineo Kuwabara's "Ueno Station, Shitaya-ku (Taito-ku)" (1936).

Through each piece on display, visitors will get a glimpse into how the area has grown and changed over time.

Admission to the event is free of charge.

Getting there

The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is located within Ueno Park, and can be reached within 7 minutes on foot from JR Ueno Station's Park Exit, or 10 minutes from Exit 7 (Tokyo Metro Ginza and Hibiya lines).

As there is no parking lot on site, patrons are advised to utilize public transport wherever possible.
