シラス（鰻の稚魚）は遠い海で孵化し、日本まで旅する。そして、冬から春にかけて日本の川を遡る。このシラスを狙った夜漁を、この時期に徳島県の各河川の河口付近で見ることができる。日が落ちると漁場に漁船が集まり、川の表層を泳ぐ稚魚を探すために煌々とライトで川を照らす。徳島で最も大きな川である吉野川では、最盛期には１００隻を超える船が夜の川を行き交う。シラス漁の景観はとても幻想的だ。この日は、徳島市の繁華街を流れる新町川でもシラス漁を発見。街の灯と漁火が溶け合い、吉野川とはまた違う美しさを見ることができた。
