Although not quite as popular as the ones in Hiroshima and Miyajima, the Kure Fireworks Festival still attracts thousands of spectators who, every year, go to Kure's large port in the hope of spending a nice summer night with family and friends under the pyrotechnic display.
The show lasts for an hour in which about 5000 fireworks are set off in the night sky. People come from every corner of the Hiroshima prefecture to lay down a plastic blanket on the ground to reserve themselves some space to enjoy the display by the ocean. Don't forget to bring some food and drinks with you, or you will get jealous of your neighbours' appetizing picnics!
